Joniston wraps up campaign on a high note

TUARAN, Sept 25, 2020:

Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Kiulu candidate Datuk Joniston Bangkuai wraps up his campaign trails with high optimism that he will retain the seat he has been holding for the past two terms.

Speaking at his last stop in Kampung Baraba, which is one of the remotest villages in the Kiulu constituency, on Friday he said after going round to over 65 villages, response from the constituents in the past two weeks was overwhelming.

"Based on the grassroots response, I have full confidence that I have the support of the Kiulu majority, " he said.

Joniston said he chose to wrap up his campaign in Kampung Baraba, situated near the Kiulu-Moyog border, because the village reminded him of his childhood when he used to earn money by tapping rubber to pay for his school fee.

Joniston also paid tribute to the village chiefs and native court officials who risked their jobs by following him in his campaign trails.

"I am really touched by their bravery, despite knowing they may end up losing their job.

"This only goes to show that the Kiulu people recognised PBS and my struggle all these while," he said.

Among those who had accompanied him in his every ceramah was Kiulu senior Native Chiefs Pandilau Kohong and Konduman Gopoi.

On another note, Joniston expected his rivals to resort to lies and slander in their desperate attempt to gain last minute support.

"So I cautioned the Kiulu voters to be wary of these dirty tactics," he said.

Later, Joniston also took the opportunity to visit all PBS polling district centres (PDM) here where he met with his election machinery workers and personally expressed his gratitude for their hard work.

Joniston is involved in a six-cornered fight with Upko President cum Tuaran MP Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau, LDP's Dr Rozalyn Gelunu, ex-priest Andau Yasun @ Bruno (PCS) and two independent candidates, Dominic Yasun and Jolianis Lampog.

Sabah goes to poll tomorrow where some 1.1 voters will choose 73 assemblymen to form the State Government.
